The Problem: Migratory birds, including Canada Geese, have found a new habitat on the trimmed grounds and ponds of golf courses, parks, corporate facilities, school grounds, neighborhoods and cemeteries. The goose droppings, approximately one pound each day per bird, create a health hazard as well as an unsightly mess. Because most of these birds are protected by federal law, the Federal Department of Agriculture requires humane methods, such as harassment by dogs, to eliminate the problem. Factoids: The "Canada" in Canada Geese does not refer to the country but to the man for whom this bird was named. Thus "Canadian Geese" is an incorrect reference. Geese can be very aggressive in water and on land. They have been known to attack both dogs and people. Happily, with the proper training, none of Dave's dogs have been beaten by the geese.
